In response to the Heritage Time Capsule (HTC) Project of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), the New Zealand Geotechnical Society (NZGS) is pleased to contribute our Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering Practice Guidelines.
The NZGS, in collaboration with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and Engineering New Zealand, developed a series of earthquake geotechnical engineering practice guidelines (in the form of modules) to improve engineering practice and increase the seismic performance of buildings and infrastructure. The guidelines have been prepared, primarily, for the use of practising geotechnical engineers but may be of interest to other engineers and council officials.
The Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering Practice Guidelines consist of:
• Module 1: Overview of the geotechnical guidelines
• Module 2: Geotechnical investigations for earthquake engineering
• Module 3: Identification, assessment and mitigation of liquefaction hazards
• Module 4: Earthquake resistant foundation design
• Module 5: Ground improvement of soils prone to liquefaction
• Module 6: Earthquake resistant retaining structure design
